Trail Build Day - Lower Buckle, Summary and Pics

A massive thank you to the 15 hard core volunteers who helped moved an incredible amount of material. Over 14 kilometers was walked with wheel barrows today along Lower Buckle to rebuild some of the features. We totaled 142.5 hours between 15 volunteers over the weekend. We rebuilt roughly 8 features using a granite rock structure, followed with some finer aggregate as the topping. We also completed drainage along the whole track. We had 3 new volunteers attend today which was awesome to see, with a big thanks to Bruce for donating a wheel barrow to the club at the end of that day! We didn't have enough man/women power or energy to get to every feature, with 7 or 8 features still needing to

Removal of wooden features?? - Education Post

Education post time! 🤘 We heard out on the trails today and have been asked why we removed the features on Lower Buckle that were made out of wood. So here is the answer so everyone in the community can hear and view it: Wood used in mountain bike trail features is great for the short term, but not in the long term. Wood breaks down and begins to rot and overtime makes the features either unstable or begin to collapse. It might not look like it from the surface you ride on, but underneath is where it shows. Moisture in the dirt significantly helps with making wood rot. This leads to more regular maintenance on these features compared to if they were built with rocks/stone and dirt. Less tim

GOLDEN GOAT CHALLENGE SUMMARY & PICS

Wow. A 100% volunteer operated race with well over 320 competitors. Over 23 LDTR volunteers + many more volunteers from the scouts. 7 crazily generous sponsors. 6 hours of racing on some very slippery trails and ONE MASSIVE THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the Golden Goat Challenge a successful day. Even with the cold winds and the heavy rains towards the end of the day we still had a huge turn out stay right until the end. This race always takes months for the club committee to plan and organise, so its amazing to see it actually all come together. There was well over 100 hours of volunteer time spent maintaining the trails before the Race in preparation for the weather today - thank
